Supersonic Arc Spraying ( Supersonic Arc Spraying is a new technology developed on the basis of conventional Arc Spraying. Supersonic arc-sprayed coatings exhibit significantly superior performance compared to conventional arc-sprayed coatings and have been widely adopted in recent years across various industries, including machinery, chemical engineering, power generation, metallurgy, steel structures, shipbuilding, naval vessels, and transportation infrastructure such as ports and docks.
Supersonic arc spraying involves feeding two filamentary metallic coating materials into two conductive nozzles within an arc spray gun, with each nozzle connected to one of the two electrodes—a high-current, low-voltage terminal. When the metal filaments advance and come into contact with each other, the resulting short-circuit arc instantly generates temperatures exceeding 5,000°C, melting the ends of the filaments. These molten filaments are then atomized into fine molten droplets by a highly compressed air stream traveling at supersonic speeds—approximately twice the speed of sound. The molten droplets are propelled toward the workpiece surface at supersonic velocities (over 400 m/s) by the compressed air stream, thereby forming an arc-sprayed coating. Compared to conventional arc-sprayed coatings, supersonic arc-sprayed coatings exhibit finer coating microstructures, denser coating architectures, and significantly higher bonding strengths.
The SX-1000 supersonic arc spray gun was developed on the basis of the SX-500 arc spray gun, with an added Laval nozzle accelerating air flow chamber in its gun structure. When compressed air passes through the Laval chamber, the airflow velocity increases significantly, enabling the atomized particles to achieve supersonic spraying.

1. Stable performance, easy to operate
This machine employs integrated circuits to hard-code its functions into a program. During operation, the machine automatically executes standardized procedures, thereby preventing operator errors that could damage the equipment and ensuring both operator safety and equipment reliability. The machine is also equipped with a remote control switch, allowing spray operations to be carried out even when the operator is located at a considerable distance from the main unit. The supersonic arc spraying equipment features highly stable output voltage and current, strong anti-interference capability, sensitive adjustment, uniform coating, minimal oxidation and burn-off, and can operate reliably under harsh conditions for extended periods. Moreover, the equipment boasts a long service life.
2. Wire sizes are optional, and the coating exhibits high bonding strength.
Wire diameter options: φ1.6–φ3.0 mm, suitable for a wide range of spraying applications, helping businesses save on materials and improve economic efficiency.
Coating adhesion strength can reach 70 MPa, whereas the bonding strength of conventional arc spraying typically ranges only from 30 to 40 MPa. The particles are ejected at high velocity, resulting in excellent atomization and fine particle size. Consequently, the resulting coating is smooth, highly dense (with a porosity of ≤0.5%), and exhibits significantly enhanced wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

The temperature rise during spraying of general workpieces shall not exceed. 100℃, so the workpiece does not deform; since the spray heat does not directly act on the workpiece surface, the spraying process will also have no impact on the workpiece’s microstructure.

It boasts high spraying efficiency and excellent energy utilization, capable of spraying over 40 kg of metallic wire per hour. It is ideal for on-site construction and can be used to spray a wide variety of metallic and metal-ceramic materials (both solid wires and powder-core wires), including various alloy wires, ceramics, molybdenum, aluminum, zinc, red copper, copper alloys, stainless steel, Babbitt alloy, and more. Widely used in wear- and corrosion-resistant coatings for steel structures, mechanical equipment, crankshafts, camshafts, starters, generators, fan impellers, shaft components, molds, chemical industry equipment, printing machinery, paper-drying cylinders, power generation, metallurgy, and other applications.
