Guangzhou Sanxin is here to share the features of ultra-hard tungsten carbide spraying.
Ultra-hard tungsten carbide coatings typically consist of covalently bonded compounds—such as carbides and nitrides—as well as elemental substances (e.g., diamond)—comprising elements from Groups III, IV, and V. These coatings can exist in various forms, including single crystals, polycrystals, and amorphous structures. Examples include diamond, cubic boron nitride (c-BN), carbon nitride (C3N4 and CNx), boron-carbon-nitride (BCN), and diamond-like carbon (DLC). Such coatings exhibit extremely high hardness, approaching that of natural diamond. Generally, the hardness of ultra-hard coatings exceeds 800 GPa; however, some researchers also classify covalently bonded compound coatings with hardness above 400 GPa as ultra-hard coatings. The hardness of diamond-like coatings varies considerably and is closely related to the proportion of sp3 bonds in their structure.
Tetragonal amorphous carbon TA-C, which contains no hydrogen, is often referred to as an amorphous diamond-like coating and is considered a superhard coating, whereas other diamond-like coatings are regarded as conventional hard coatings. With the exception of diamond, all these materials are synthetically produced and have no natural counterparts. Moreover, in recent years, nano-multilayer coatings and nanocrystalline composite coatings—widely studied—also fall within the hardness range of superhard coatings and exhibit outstanding, well-rounded performance characteristics, making them highly favored by researchers. Superhard tungsten carbide coating materials can be classified into unary systems (single-element compounds), binary compounds, ternary compounds, and possibly even more complex multi-component compounds. The key characteristics of superhard coating materials are: ① their chemical bonds are predominantly covalent, with only a minor contribution from ionic bonds; ② they consist of nitrides, carbides, and elemental substances from Groups III and IV of the second and third periods of the periodic table, and the constituent elements have very small atomic radii.
After years of learning, summarizing experiences, and receiving technical support from research institutions, Guangzhou Sanxin has developed its own scientifically rigorous process technology and construction plans for various thermal spray surface treatments. We welcome customers with relevant needs to inquire about tungsten carbide spraying.
